Program Description: The international summer research program on big data in energy and related infrastructure is funded by the National Science Foundation. The international research activities will take place at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Perak, Malaysia. The program duration is about 8 weeks of which 6 weeks will be spent in Malaysia.
The research experience will be followed by a cultural visit at the end of the year. The US students and mentors will travel to UTP, Malaysia for 10-14 days in total. During the visit, they will meet with their project team and mentors in person. There will also be industry visits/field trips. Students will make final project presentation to industry partners and UTP mentors while they are at the host site. In addition, students will be making some cultural trips to Kuala Lumpur and Perak region. All travel related costs will be supported by the project.
Note: The current assumption is that by June 2022, students and faculty are allowed to travel to Malaysia. However, the proposed plan is subject to the TAMU & UTP guidelines related to COVID-19 pandemic and its public health policies related to on- and off campus academic and research activities as well as the guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of State (Travel Advisories). The selected candidates will be notified appropriately if there is any change in travel plan before the program starts in Summer.
The IRES research team will include a cohort of up to nine students (three each from Texas A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, and University of Nevada-Las Vegas). Financially, all the international and domestic travel costs for the U.S. participants will be supported by the project.
