An NSF-funded International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) Program at Texas A&M University is inviting applications for undergraduate students (juniors and seniors in STEM disciplines by Fall 2022) who are strongly interested in international summer research experience at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Perak, Malaysia. Participants will get an opportunity to work alongside Malaysian faculty and students on fundamental and applied research on topics related to big data in energy & related infrastructure. These may include (but not limited to) machine learning, data analytics, data collection method and computing technology development, and risk and reliability assessments. The participants will also have an opportunity to participate in several enrichment activities like field trips, cultural activities, and research seminar. Program Description: The summer IRES Program in Big Data in Energy & Related Infrastructure is a research training program supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The 2022 IRES will take place on UTP campus in Malaysia over a 6-week period during summer (tentatively from June 27 to August 12 including 6 weeks of research and one week of travel time) will include undergraduate students from UTP, North Carolina A&T State University, and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This summer’s program will include up to three students from Texas A&M. Financially, all travel costs will be supported and housing and meals will be provided at no cost to each participant. Additionally, each participant will be given a $2,000 stipend. However, students are required to attend all 6 weeks without any break except for the UTP approved holidays. Student will not be able to do any other summer internship if they are selected for this international internship.
To apply, students must have the following:
- Desire to participate in applied research
- Major in an engineering, engineering technology, statistics, or closely related field
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (out of 4.0 maximum scale)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
